Before you started shopping for your dress, did you have an idea of the type or style of gown you wanted?Â
I actually was really set on wanting a short dress, or a dress that was a little bit unique and wacky. I needed to show off the Dr Martens! I’m not very traditional so I couldn’t picture myself in a long, white dress and had convinced myself I wouldn’t look right in one, but Sophie worked her magic!
Did you have an idea of the wedding dress designer / label you wanted?Â
Not particularly, but I had looked at a lot of the By Watters designs which I loved! Que the big bow!Â
How did you find out about your boutique?
Just through researching online. I saw 130 stocked By Watters so it went from there.
What made you decide to go with the boutique you did?
They had a few of the dresses I liked in store, and actually my sister pushed me in to filling in the form for the boutique. (I was a very anxious wedding dress shopper!)
How did your boutique make you feel special?
Sophie and her mum were incredibly sweet, welcoming and personable. They made me feel so comfortable, especially knowing I was quite anxious about trying on dresses. The whole vibe of the shop and the people were perfect for me. Sophie was like my own personal Gok Wan and she made me feel really good about myself in a dress I would have never have had the courage to try on.
What were your favourite parts of the wedding dress shopping experience?Â
Spending time with my sister and Mam and having it as an experience we could do together.Â
Was the experience of shopping for your wedding dress as you expected, or was it something totally different?
It was completely different, but in a positive way! I thought it was going to take me ages to find a dress that I wanted and would feel good in.
How many other shops did you visit?
Just the one! 130 Atelier was all I needed.
Once I’d gotten over the attention of trying dresses on, I really enjoyed it, in fact, once it was over, I really missed it and wanted to do it again. I definitely didn’t see any reason to visit another boutique though. I love supporting local businesses and you can tell Sophie genuinely finds joy in what she does.Â
What is your advice to other brides who are about to start dress shopping?
To have trust in the boutique owners because they know what they’re talking about and they’re there to make you feel like your best self, Sophie definitely did for me.Â
Any additional advice about planning / wedding day?
Just enjoy every milestone and every part of the experience because it’s such a special thing that you only do once!
